LUTHER GROSVENOR discography
- w/Deep Feeling
In 1966, Luther Grosvenor teamed up with Jim Capaldi (drums/vocals), Poli Palmer (drums), Gordon Jackson (guitar/vocals) and Dave Meredith (bass guitar) in the Worcester group The Hellions, having replaced Dave Mason. After changing their name to Deep Feeling, the band hooked up with Yardbirds producer Giorgio Gomelsky and started work on an album.
The band recorded five tracks at Rymuse Studios in London during autumn of 1966, when Jim Capaldi quit the band to form Traffic. The rest of the band decided to call it quits, and the tapes were shelved… until now. The only track to surface was the title track - it was first released in 2001 (on Luther Grosvenor's "Floodgates Anthology") and most recently appeared on a Mod compilation CD given away with MOJO music magazine. In 2009, Sunbeam Records issued "Pretty Colours", a 12 track CD that includes the 1966 unreleased album, a couple live tracks, plus some recordings made by band members Palmer and Jackson in 1967.
This discography list all the CDs mentioned above, plus looks into the 1971 "Rock Generation Vol.8" album which listed two tracks by Deep Feeling on the cover but didn't include them on the actual record.

- Rock Generation Vol. 8 -
In the early 70s, BYG Records in France started releasing a series of semi-official compilation albums called "Rock Generation". They were all sourced from Giorgio Gomelsky's personal archives, and featured a mix of studio demos and live recorings. At the time of their release, all the material was previously unreleased. Volume 1 for example, featured Animals recorded at the Club A Gogo Newcastle, and Yardbirds live at The Marquee! Volume 8, released in 1971 was supposed to feature demos by Soft Machine on side one, and cuts by Mark Leeman 5, Deep Feeling, T-Bones, Ingoes and Dyan Parker on side two. The Deep Feeling tracks were "Poltergeist Of Alice" and "Pretty Colours". But Mr. Gomelsky changed his mind in the last minute, and used tracks by Davy Graham and Mark Leeman 5 on side two instead - thus dropping the Deep Feeling, T-Bones, Ingoes and Dyan Parker tracks.
When "Rock Generation Vol. 8" (BYG Records 529.708) hit the streets, the record played the new revised track listing, but the original track listing (with Deep Feeling etc) was wrongly printed on the front and back cover, plus on the record label itself! This first edition was quickly withdrawn, and the sleeve was corrected for the second pressing which was issued with the same catalogue number as the first. Click on the thumbnail to the left for the "correct" second pressing.
The mispressed cover and label are pictured below. "Pretty Colours" by Deep Feeling has since been released, of course - but "Poltergeist of Alice" is still unreleased, or.....? One of the songs on the new Deep Feeling CD from Sunbeam Records is called "Imaginations of Alice"..... Quite possibly this is the missing song, with a new title. "Imaginations of Alice" was recorded in 1967 by Poli Palmer and Gordon Jackson, shortly after Deep Feeling had broken up. Anyone?
